ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (EMS)
The Seattle Parks and Recreation EMS guides and supports improvements
in environmental, social and fiscal performance. THE ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP TEAM
A Parks Environmental Stewardship Team continually evaluates how we
care for our natural resources. BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES
Best Management Practices document standards and specification of the
most comprehensive, up to date operational practices that reduce environmental
impacts. In addition to formally established plans, conservation and
stewardship actions are being taken throughout Seattle Parks. RESOURCE CONSERVATION
As with our parks, we strive to make our operations as clean and green
as possible. Through water, energy, and fuel conservation, and reducing
and recycling our city's man-made and "clean-green" waste,
we are able to put more public funds towards making Seattle's parks
the best they can be. HORTICULTURE
& LAND MANAGEMENT Since 1884, when the citizens of Seattle dedicated their first park
(Denny Park),
volunteers and city staff have been actively caring for one of the nations
finest and best cared for parks systems. As our population grows, so
does our commitment to restore, preserve and maintain our parks, sports
fields, and natural areas. URBAN WILDLIFE
Seattle Parks support more than human activity. Birds, fish, mammals big and small, and all kinds of insects live in our parks and add to the natural beauty of our city. At Seattle Parks, we partner with numerous organizations to continually enhance and expand wildlife habitat in the city. |
