City of Seattle Day of Giving for Hurricane Katrina Relief
On Thursday, September 15, the City of Seattle organized donation “giving” stations throughout the city of Seattle where people could write checks directly to one of the four charities listed below or give cash to be split evenly among the four charities. The cities of Des Moines and Renton will also held a Day of Giving on September 15th.
You can still donate to these charities, which benefited from the City of Seattle Day of Giving:
www.secondharvest.org - America's Second Harvest, "America's Food Bank" has pledged to use 100% of earmarked donations for hurricane relief services of food and grocery items.
www.habitat.org - Habitat for Humanity International will be helping to provide assistance and rebuilding opportunities in New Orleans and the rest of the Gulf Coast. They launched "Operation Home Delivery" to rebuild homes across the Gulf Coast for those who cannot qualify for a conventional mortgage.
www.mercycorps.org - Mercy Corps is focusing on four strategic program areas: emergency relief; community mobilization; psychological programs that will help survivors overcome their trauma, with a special emphasis on children, and economic recovery by providing cash for work programs and small business loans. 92% of every dollar goes directly to relief and recovery services.
