Green Power Program

Accomplishments

The Green Power Program completed three solar demonstration projects in 2007.
  • Seattle Parks Department - Montlake Community Center (4.2 kW)

  • Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center - Yale Building (2.3 kW)

  • Inter-Im Community Development Association - Nihonmachi Terrace Apartments (2.0 kW)

This brings the total to 24 projects installed since 2002 and a combined peak generating capacity of 73 kilowatts (DC). These projects are estimated to produce over 70,000 kWh of clean, renewable electricity each year. This is enough power to run 8 average households, or as many as 20 energy-conserving homes.

A complete list of projects with links to project summaries and live production data is provided below.

Also completed in 2007 was the installation of bright blue signs announcing "Solar Works in Seattle" at many of these project sites.

Thank You!
These projects are 100% funded with the continuing contributions of City Light customers. Many of you have been supporting these projects for years. You deserve a huge "Thank You" for helping to grow the commercial market for solar and other renewable energy sources in our community.

New for 2008...
One of the goals of the Green Power Program is to create more public awareness about solar and other sources of renewable energy. While demonstration projects help showcase the technology, later this year we will be offering additional educational resources and enhancements to our website, including improved live data monitoring features. Seattle City Light has contracted with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to assist us in this effort.

Customer Generation…
One indicator of the growing local solar market is the number of customers installing their own solar generation. As of April 2008 there were 100 customers generating electricity at their home or business. This is about double the number a year ago.

SCL´s Customer Generation website provides information and application forms for interconnecting your solar project to City Light´s grid and qualifying for renewable energy production incentives.

Green Power Links offers related green power web resources from City Light and other organizations.
