Welcome to Seattle City Light

Seattle City Light is a publicly-owned utility dedicated to exceeding our customers' expectations in producing and delivering environmentally responsible, safe, low-cost, reliable power. We are committed to delivering the best customer service experience of any utility in the nation.

What To Do When The Lights Go Out
With the Puget Sound winter storm season in full swing, the chance that you will experience a power outage is greater than at any other time of year. No one likes being without power, and Seattle City Light crews are on the job 24 hours a day to restore power as quickly as possible. While you wait for the crews to do their work, there are many things you can do to minimize the inconvenience of power outages. Things like making sure you have fresh batteries in your flashlights, keeping your drapes pulled to conserve heat and dressing in layers will help keep you comfortable until the lights come back on. For more tips, see our printable brouchure, What To Do When The Power Goes Out.

"Round Up" and Support Project Share
Project Share Logo
Imagine no heat or light during the coldest months of the year. This is the situation many families face when they are unable to pay their electric bills. Project Share, generously supported by Seattle City Light customers, helps eligible families make emergency payments to keep their lights on.

To help support our neighbors in need, City Light is asking customers to “round-up” bill payments to the next highest dollar amount, for one year. The extra funds will go directly to helping keep the lights on for customers who otherwise would have to choose between food and electricity. Look for a coupon in your upcoming Light Reading newsletter, included with your utilities bill.

For more information about Project Share and how you might help, please see the Project Share web page.

City Light Wins Customer Service Award
Seattle City Light was honored by Business Finance magazine with a 2008 Vision Award for its innovative approach to motivating the Utility's workforce to enhance customer service. City Light has already seen solid results in areas including service connection time, billing and metering. "We started this effort as part of our commitment to provide the best customer service experience of any utility in the country and it is paying off," Superintendent Jorge Carrasco said. Kill Vampires, Save Money
The darker days of Fall and Winter mean that our customers will be using more electricity for lighting and heating their homes and businesses. At this time of year it's more critical than ever to be aware of the many "energy vampires" that literally suck up electricity and can add significantly to your power bill. KOMO-TV recently covered this issue, and provides great tips for putting a "stake through the hearts" of the vampires in your home. See the article and video here.

Customer Alert: Beware of Phone Scams
In the past few days several City Light customers have been the targets of phone scams. If a customer believes he or she has been contacted by a con artist, they should report the incident to Seattle Police (206) 625-5011. Read the press release.
