Seattle City Light is developing the 2008 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), a long-term plan that outlines how we will meet anticipated customer needs over the next 20 years. The IRP ensures that we meet our obligation to supply reliable electricity to customers at a reasonable cost, while factoring in key environmental and social considerations.

Since most new resources require significant lead times to build, electric utilities must plan ahead to be sure that the required resources will be in place when needed. Because integrated electricity systems are complex and capital-intensive, IRPs are typically based on load forecasts and resource options that extend well into the future. Taking such a long-term view means that the IRP needs to be sufficiently flexible to respond to changing market conditions and future uncertainties.

Seattle City Light intends to provide an IRP every two years to its governing board, the Seattle City Council.

In developing its IRP, City Light is seeking the input of various interested parties, to help understand and appreciate their perspectives and preferences related to electricity options. As part of the IRP process, this input will be used to create a more comprehensive planning process, and create the framework for future input into energy planning initiatives.

You can make known your thoughts and views on the Integrated Resource Planning process by attending any of several public hearings and stakeholders meetings, sending an email to SCL.IRP@seattle.gov, and/or contacting any of the following by phone, email, letter or FAX.
