Report on Clean Seattle Initiative
Cleanup: Lake City Way
Date of Cleanup: November 19, 2005
Departments: Seattle Department of Transportation, Parks and Recreation,
Seattle Department of Neighborhoods,
Department of Correction work crews
and Seattle Public Utilities Community Services
Division.
Mayor Greg Nickels led more than 35 community volunteers
in the cleaning and greening of the Lake City community. The event was held
at the Lake City Mini Park at Lake City Way and 125th Street.
Cheryl Klinker of the North District Council Greater Lake City Community
Council introduced the mayor to the volunteers. The Thornton Creek Alliance,
the Church of Scientology, Funmi Bolonduro of the 5th Farmers Insurance,
Nigerian Association and other members of the community participated.
Volunteer activities included planting trees clearing
brush, and placing mulch.
Cleanup Activities:
- Planted four flowering pear trees
- Mulched, weeded and trimmed roses
- Repaired 31 streetlights
- Helped secure a no trespass agreement with private property owner
- Collected 7000 lbs. litter
