Mayor Nickels’ Clean & Green Seattle Initiative and more than 50 Neighborhood volunteers cleaned the streets and parks of Ballard in preparation for the Annual Norwegian Constitution Day Parade on May 17 th.
The volunteers represented a number of neighborhood organizations including the Groundswell NW, the Norwegian Commercial Club, and the Leif Erickson Lodge and Ballard community residents. The volunteer crews worked through midday . The Annual Norwegian Constitution Day Parade has been a part Ballard since 1973.
Mayor Nickels recognized Ballard’s community spirit and met with community leaders, residents and arts & crafts vendors at the Ballard Community Center.
Cleanup Activities:
- Swept - 5 curb miles
- Potholes- patched 5 using 21 tons of mix
- Leaves - picked up 8 cubic yards of leaves
- Overgrowth - cut 1 swath mile
- Curbs painted - 6
- Damaged, weathered or missing traffic signs replaced - 6 locations
- 30 Streetlights Repaired
- 20 Yards of bark/wood chips spread
- 3 garbage bag pick-ups
- Half ton of shrubs removed
