Cleanup: Westlake Park & Pike Place Market

Mayor Nickels, in partnership with the Metropolitan Improvement District and the Pike Place Market, lead business leaders and volunteers, along with the services of Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle City Light, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Department of Correction work crews and SPU Community Services Division in a clean up of Seattle's Downtown retail core, Saturday, December 12th. Volunteers, Mayor Nickels, Kate Joncas of the MID/DSA and Interim Executive Director Carol Binder took on the tasks of litter pick up and tree planting.
This is the second year in a row that Clean and Green Seattle has focused its energies on the Pike/Pine corridor during the holiday shopping season. Under the Mayor's supervision, the city is making significant progress in keeping the retail core clean. As a result, new businesses are opening along Pike Street.
Additionally, the MID/DSA and PPM have asked Clean & Green Seattle to enforce the ban on 'sandwich' signs. Per Tim Ceis, SDOT will be notifying businesses in this area that they will need to remove illegal signs by January 1, 2005 or they will be removed.
Cleanup Activities:
- 8 dumpters painted out
- dumpster consolidated-- process underway for two alleys in the corridor
- 4 paintouts of private property graffiti
- one bicycle removed from city litter can
