On Saturday, June 25, 2005, Mayor Greg Nickels led more than 50 community volunteers to green and clean the South Delridge community. Community groups included: South Delridge/White Center Weed and Seed; West Seattle Community Safety Partnership; 34th District Democrats; White Center Community Development Association; Highland Park Action Committee; Westwood Neighborhood Council; White Center Salvation Army; Delridge Neighborhoods District Council; Seattle Works and Seattle Neighborhood Group
Volunteer activities included painting of park kiosks, litter pick-up and removal of invasive plants. Refreshments were provided in part by community businesses.
Cleanup Activities:
- Street Maintenance mowed roadway shoulders and swept the streets removing
3 cubic yards of debris
- Removed
1,000 pounds of litter
- SDOT Urban Forestry carted off weeds and litter bags, and also assisted in
spreading chips on the triangle at Delridge and Cambridge
- Painted 120' of curb
- Replaced 3 damaged signs, and reset 2 sign posts
- Added new reflectors to traffic circle at 17 Av SW and SW Barton St.
- Reinstalled 3 crosswalks at SW Roxbury and Delridge Wy SW
- Repainted 30 parking stalls in the business district between 17/Roxbury
on Delridge Wy SW
- 10 DOC workers
performed landscaping and invasive weed removal over 2 acres from community P-Patch
at 26 th & Thistle
- Cleaned graffiti from 31 locations including traffic signs,
control boxes, utility poles, etc.
- Repaired 78 streetlights
