Report on Clean Seattle Initiative

Cleanup: Interbay

Date of Cleanup: September 17, 2005

Departments:  Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle City Light, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Department of Correction work crews and Seattle Public Utilities Community Services Division, Seattle Works, King County Juvenile work team, Department of Correction work crews and Seattle Public Utilities Community Services Division

On Saturday, September 17, 2005 , Mayor Greg Nickels and Sharon Nickels led more than 35 community volunteers to green and clean North West Seattle’s Interbay community. Interbay is a predominantly industrial/commercial neighborhood in the valley between Queen Anne and Magnolia. Mayor Nickels kicked off the Clean and Green clean up event at the Interbay Convenant Church parking lot.

Host Reverend Ray Bartell introduced the mayor to volunteers, community and business leaders. Community participants included Bob Derry and David Bolin of the Interbay Neighborhood Association, Zoe Vineyard and other members of the Church of Scientology and neighborhood volunteers from Queen Anne and Magnolia.

Volunteer activities included tree planting and litter pick-up. Starbucks, QFC and other community businesses provided refreshments. Anthony Harris took digital photographs.

 

Cleanup Activities:

  • 59 streetlights repaired/relamped
  • Swept approx 3 curb miles
  • Filled 3 potholes
  • Cleaned or replaced 16 signs
  • Two Oak trees were planted
  • New planting bed at the corner of 14th and Dravus
  • Collected 1,000 pounds of litter
  • Urban Forestry crews worked with the DOC crews to clean up the median on 15th, Ruffner to W. Raye
