Myrtle Edwards was a member of the Seattle City Council from 1955 - 1969. She was always at the forefront of campaigns and programs to preserve Seattle's natural beauty and to enhance it with new parks, planting and sculpture. She died in a tragic automobile accident in 1969. In 1976, the formerly named Elliot Bay Park was renamed Myrtle Edwards Park in her honor. Find out more about Myrtle Edwards.
Myrtle Edwards Park has 1.25-mile winding bike and pedestrian paths along Elliott Bay, fantastic views of the Olympics Mountains, Mount Rainier, and Puget Sound, easy access from downtown and easy connection to bike and walking paths to Magnolia. The park has picnic tables and the best Seattle waterfront views, as well as a fascinating view of a cargo ship dock where ships drop off grain shipments.
The park is open 24 hours a day.
